Because we're better together!

We are at a pivotal time in our nation’s history. Unlike anything any of us have ever seen before, our federal government is no longer functioning the way it is constitutionally supposed to be. Now, more than ever, Vermont needs strong leadership that will address the real-life struggles Vermonters are facing in real time.
I am running for State Representative to be a voice for the working families of the NEK. I have had an amazing career in public health, from providing community education on intimate partner violence to working within state government helping Vermonters navigate the complex healthcare system, to advocating and providing resources for people living with Parkinson's Disease and other movement disorders. I love this State, I love my town, I love the Northeast Kingdom, and I want to be of service to help make lives better for everyone in my community.
I look at our failing systems, from healthcare to education, to housing, and see how they intersect with another. But I am taking it a step further to consider our food systems and the revitalization of our local economy, and I see a great opportunity for significant systems changes that when done thoughtfully can secure the future our children deserve.
I’m running as an Independent because I have watched both parties play the blame game for far too long. I am not interested in partisan politics, but in building coalitions. Being a lifelong Independent I have heard repeatedly that it’s not practical. I understand that some people will only vote along party lines. But I’m not running because a party says so, I’m running because I believe in a brighter future for all of us. As we near the 250 anniversary of our Declaration of Independence I am reminded of a quote from John Adams, “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other” (1780). What we have seen in Vermont and across this country is a great divide, stagnated progress, and an unwillingness to work together. I have no interest in toting a party line nor answering to anyone but my constituents.
Things feel dark right now, costs continue to rise, from gas and heating fuel, grocery bills, to property taxes and rent. But we cannot wallow in our circumstances, we must come together and lift each other up, to bring in the light. I will not give up on this state, or my community. I will fight for everyone to live a safe, happy, and healthy life and I hope you will join me!
